The underlying purpose of dive boots are:
Protect your feet against abrasions from underwater plant
and marine life.
Keep your feet warm as you dive at depths of 50 feet and
water is nearing freezing temperature.
Dive boots can also provide traction as you walk around the slippery boat floor.
Protect your feet from blisters while underwater.
If you ever end up at a diving location known to be occupied by sea urchins, you will thank your lucky stars for your diving boots. Those of you who have been stung or know anyone that has been stung will know what we are talking about…
Just like the dive suit, your dive boots can come with or without a zipper. A zipper will help you get in and out of the dive boots easier on land, but underwater they can allow more water to sneak inside. One upside to zippers is that they prolong the life of the boots by making it convenient to take the booties on and off. Our recommendation is to buy your pair of dive boots without the zippers in case you ever have the opportunity to dive in a cold environment.
