Scuba lights: when they come in handy and some of the features to look for:

Scuba lights can come in handy when performing the following types of dives:

a) Night Diving - The most obvious reason as visibility is virtually non existent even at the surface.

b) Cave Diving - Underwater caves can provide for some of the most exciting and eventful dives. Just like in land, you need a good visibility from scuba lights to enjoy them.

c) Wreck Diving - When going inside the room of a sunken ship, make sure to have a dive light in place as visibility can be minimal.

Some of the features to check for when examining a scuba light are,

1) They must be water proof..

2) Dive lights must be as usable the deeper you go underwater..

There are two type of scuba lights, disposable batteries and rechargeable ones.
The brightness of most scuba diving lights in disposable batteries can usually be determined by the number of batteries it contains. According to industry reviews, this is because most disposable batteries have the same voltage, about 1.5 volts. A scuba light can come from two, all the way up to 8 cells. For night diving in clear water, even two cell lights can be adequate if you're with a group. However, in murky water, you should definitely use dive lights between 6 to 8 cells.

Rechargeable batteries can provide a lot more power and brightness. However, as you would guess, they tend to be bigger more expensive, and require careful maintenance.
